We have noticed a growing number of articles from translation companies (LSAs) explaining why they will no longer offer proofreading services of any kind. The thinking behind it seems to be that AI translations take too much time and effort to clean up and then the failings of the final product are pinned to the reviewer, and even human translation is now partly AI as professional translators are using the AI tools.

Here’s why that is the wrong approach

We all know that AI translation is not as good as professional human translation. It is robotic (quite literally) and lacks any warmth, nuance or creativity. But some clients know all those things and still want to go with it – and that’s OK. They understand the limitations, are fully prepared to call it an AI translation and just want a human to do a sweep to make sure there are no howlers in there.
